Georgia expectant mothers find time is not on their side for prenatal care: This AJC article uncovers the vast disparity in care for Georgia mothers, particularly those in rural areas, with 80 of 159 counties lacking a full-time OB-GYN, and ongoing rural hospital closures forcing many women to travel long distances for prenatal care. Recent data show rising rates of late or inadequate prenatal care, though infant mortality rates have slightly improved. State leaders have expanded Medicaid postpartum coverage to one year, extended TANF benefits to pregnant women, and are exploring ways to use local public health departments to provide prenatal visits. These efforts aim to reduce disparities and ensure safer, more accessible care for mothers and babies across Georgia. Read the full article here.
REPORT & TOOLKIT: Trauma-Informed Women's Health: This new toolkit from the Campaign for Trauma-Informed Policy and Practice explores how the healthcare system can promote trauma-informed policies and practices to better address disparities and challenges impacting women’s health.
